A field of around 60 will compete in the Egmont Championship at Stratford on Sunday.
The 36-hole event, which doubles as a representative trial for senior, junior and masters men's and women's teams, has attracted Taranaki's top golfers.
In the men's division, Taranaki No 1 Brad Hayward starts as the pre-tournament favourite, but he can expect a strong challenge from Tyla Otene (Westown), Aarun Langton (Opunake), Tim White (Hawera) and Tony Cawley (Stratford).
The women's division looks to be a two-horse race between Celeste McLean (15) and Holly Winter (14) , both from Manaia.
