The Taranaki under-16 rugby team have had a poor start at the Hurricanes tournament in Wellington, losing both their matches on the opening two days.
Taranaki went down 47-6 to Wellington on Monday, their only points coming through the boot of Eli Kneepkens.
Players of the day for Taranaki were prop Leighton Read and flankers Paddy Ford and Bryn Chard. On Tuesday they pushed Hawke's Bay hard before losing 29-16. Liam Bernet and Izaak Wilson scored tries for Taranaki, with Daniel Waite adding two penalties.
Bernet, Ford and halfback Logan Crowley were named players of the day.
Taranaki's last match is today against Manawatu who have also lost both their opening matches.
