Stratford's Joshua Gilbert was in excellent form at the Taranaki under-12 swimming championships at the weekend.

Gilbert broke four Taranaki 10-to-11-year-old boys' records at the meet which attracted 95 swimmers to the TSB pool at Stratford.

The most impressive record to fall was in the 100m individual medley when Gilbert recorded a time of 1min 13.03secs to lower the mark of 1m13.21s set by Kara McPherson in 1996.

He then broke his own record in the 200m individual medley, taking more then four seconds off his previous best of 2m39.17s to set a new mark of 2m35.06s.

Another of his own records to fall was the 400m individual medley.

Having previously set a mark of 5m49.14s, Gilbert swam superbly to set a record of 5m38.68s.

Not satisfied with three records, the 11-year-old also set a new time in the 200m backstroke, posting a time of 2m35.72s to lower his old time of 2m37.33s.

Stratford dominated the meet, winning all the boys' and girls' relay events and all but two of the individual age-group trophies.

The individual age-group winners were: Lauren Wood (Stratford) 12-year-old girls; Zarhn Collins (Stratford) 12-year-old boys; Claudia Taylor (Stratford) 11-year-old girls; Joshua Gilbert (Stratford) 11-year-old boys; Sasha Reid (Aquabladz) 10-year-old girls; Orion McGeoch (Stratford) 10-year-old boys; Lara Ehler (Aquabladz) nine-year-old girls; Luca Zabel (Stratford) nine-year-old boys.

Other trophy winners were Gilbert in the 12 years and under 400m individual medley, Ella Hughes (New Plymouth Aquatics) for the girls' 12 years 100m breaststroke and Chris Johnson (Stratford) for the boys' 12 years 100m freestyle.
