New Plymouth Marist United head into unknown territory when they take on Wanganui United in an interprovincial one-day cricket match at Wanganui's Victoria Park tomorrow.
The two club teams won their respective one-day premier competitions, with the winner of tomorrow's match advancing to the Central Districts tournament in Palmerston North on February 2 and 3. There they will play the other three regional winners in the Central Districts zone.
The Central zone winner will play in the national finals in Auckland in April.
Marist United will be without their strike bowler and Taranaki rep Josh Barrett who is unavailable for the match due to family commitments. He has been replaced by Sam Wells. Also unavailable due to a family wedding is wicket-keeper batsman Ryan Bridgeman.
Ethan Bolstad, one of the stars in Marist's Taranaki one-day final victory over Woodleigh earlier this month, is under a injury cloud with a foot injury.
"He expects to play but if he isn't okay he will be replaced by Kurt Leuthart," said Marist United captain Ryan Fleming.
Fleming knows little about the Wanganui United team, other than Wanganui allrounder and former Central Districts A rep Tom Lance is a regular in the side.
"Apart from him, we don't know much about them," he said.
The Victoria Park pitch is expected to be slow and low for the match.
The Nag ‘n' Noggin New Plymouth Marist United team is: Dean Robinson, Jason Meuli, Matthew Sim, Ryan Fleming (captain), Leith Johnston, Jarred Cunningham, Ethan Bolstad, Ryan Watson, Sean Lance, Sam Barrett, Sam Wells, Kurt Leuthart.
