New Plymouth's Pukekura Park Tennis Club is the top club in New Zealand.

The club picked up the top award at Tennis New Zealand's annual awards function in Auckland last Thursday night.

"It's the first time a club from Taranaki has won the title," said Pukekura's Tania Fleming who attended the awards with eight others from the club.

"It was very exciting. It's going to help a lot when we're looking for funding to improve our courts."

Fleming said the club was looking to fund new plexi-pave courts for their growing number of junior players. When juniors from the club are preparing for national tournaments, they have to travel to Wellington to play on plexi-pave surfaces.

The club which turned 100 in March, 2011, was struggling with 25 to 30 members. Membership has taken off in the last year after the club linked with Welbourn School. The club now boasts 130 juniors and 60 seniors.

"It's just grown, especially our grass hopper tennis."

Will Aaron Cruden's omission hurt or help the All Blacks?

Hurt - he needs as much game time as possible.

Help - finally Beauden Barrett will get a proper run.

Hmmm - no biggie, just a temporary hitch.

Who is Cruden? I support the All Whites.
