A skipper's wedding celebrations has meant two Taranaki club teams have a date with the cricket pitch all weekend.
The Inglewood v Woodleigh premier grade two-day match was postponed last weekend because of the wedding of Inglewood captain Hayden McIntyre. The round five match will be played today and tomorrow.
Meanwhile, a game that started last month will finally be completed today.
Competition leaders New Plymouth Marist United played day one of their match against Francis Douglas Memorial College at Lynmouth Park on January 27.
That was because of their commitments at the national one-day club regional playoffs in Palmerston North last weekend, where they won the spot to represent Central Districts at the national club finals in Auckland in April.
Marist United were well placed after day one, having picked up first-innings points when scoring 194 and dismissing Francis Douglas for 113.
Marist United will resume on 24-1 today in their second innings.
New Plymouth Old Boys welcome back Central Districts batsman William Young for day two of their match against Hawera United at Western Park.
Young was sidelined last month with a broken finger suffered in a warm-up session before the Central Districts v Otago match in Dunedin.
Young has been batting in the nets in training this past week and is looking forward to getting back out on the field for his club side.
Hawera United made 377-8 declared batting first on day one and, after losing two quick wickets, Old Boys recovered to be 58-2 at stumps, with James McDougall (18) and John Dickson (21) at the crease on a good batting wicket.
Old Boys still have a lot of work to do, but have plenty of batting to come, including Young and their last-round century maker Dean Stewart, Wesley Morrick, Jamie Watkins and Matt Shaw, who are all in good form.
In the remaining match, New Plymouth Boys' High School passed Stratford's 147 batting first and the school side reached 223-9 for a first-innings lead of 76. Boys' High will fancy their chances of chasing down an outright win.
