A clean sweep in the men's singles set Taranaki up for a 15-9 win over Manawatu in a representative match in Palmerston North on Saturday.

In the top two men's singles matches, Jordan Fleming had too much power and class for Manawatu's Jono Spring, winning 6-1 6-3, while Taranaki's Callum Old had to work hard for his 6-3 6-4 win over Gareth Tosland.

Ajeet Rai, playing at No 3 for Taranaki, showed his raw talent in winning 6-0 6-1 against Rawiri Partu-Smith, and Graeme Mitchell used his experience to tough out a good win over Terry Lee 6-2 6-0.

Andrew Sangster played well to beat Michael Harris 7-6 6-3, while Andrew Powell used his big serve to come back from 1-4 down in both sets to win 6-4 6-4 over Tem Kauri.

The women's singles were shared 3-3. Taranaki No 1 Nicole Koch showed no mercy in her 6-1 6-2 win over Natalie Dean. Playing at No 4, Louise Waite had a convincing 6-2 6-3 win over Chantelle Rossouw and the experienced Kirsten Adam at No 5 had a 7-6 6-2 win over Megan Small.

Alice Caskey went down to Bridget Dickins, while Sophie Robertson was unlucky, losing in three sets to Shenae Salisbury. In the other match, Frances Gray lost to Anika Patel.

The doubles and combines were shared evenly between Taranaki and Manawatu. Fleming, Koch and Rai were unbeaten, all three winning their singles, doubles and combines.
