Kristian White's round at New Plymouth last Saturday had just about everything.
A hole-in-one, an eagle, seven birdies, five pars, two bogeys and two double bogeys. Toss in the jackpot for having two twos on his card, a three-putt and the only thing missing was a shank.
And that wasn't likely with the three-handicapper finishing with a round of 67 at Ngamotu - five-under-par.
"I was really stoked with the way I played," he said yesterday midway through his round playing in the club's Wednesday competition.
"I hit a two iron to hole out on the par-three 12th. The pin was at the back and I hit the front of the green. It tracked its way to the hole and dropped in."
The ace was White's third - the others were at the 11th at Manukorihi and the sixth at Waitara.
"I was a bit nervous on the 13th tee and pulled my tee shot left. I made bogey there, then birdied the next.
"That gave me the jackpot for two twos. It was worth $170. Nice."
White's round started with a birdie blitz. He birdied four of the first five holes, then had a double bogey five on the par three sixth when he took two to get out of the bunker.
A birdie four on the seventh followed, with a three-putt par on the par-five eighth and a birdie two on the ninth for a nine-hole total of 32.
He started his back nine with two pars, then the hole-in-one, followed by a bogey, birdie and bogey. White then parred 16, doubled bogeyed the par-four 17th and finished in style with an eagle three on the par-five 18th for a homeward nine of 35.
"I'm hitting the ball well. I'm playing in the Westown Classic this weekend and my confidence is up," he said.
"It's my best round here. I had a break for four years and I've only got back into it last year. I've come back happy and fresh."
What made the hole-in-one on the 166-metre 12th a touch more satisfying for White was that he used a golf ball given to him by his inlaws - Danny O'Carroll and Melva James.
"They've just got back from a holiday in Perth and Bali. Danny had played at the Joondalup course in Perth and they bought me a top and a ball back - both with Joondalup on them. I used the ball, so that was nice," White said.
