Taranaki karter Thomas Boniface finished second in the cadet final at the 2013 Trans-Tasman Twilight Challenge in Palmerston North on Saturday.

Thomas drove well after starting from eighth position following some disappointing results in the heats. Callum Hedge finished seventh after starting from the rear of the field.

Hunter Cheetham and Ryan Jury lined up in the junior restricted class, with Hunter finishing sixth and Ryan ninth. The event was won by Mt Wellington's Liam Lawson.

Taranaki's Sebastian Bainbridge competed in the 125cc Rotax Max junior class but luck wasn't with him as he finished 18th.

Taranaki 125cc Rotax Max light driver Aaron deRidder had setup issues with his kart and finished 22nd, while Formula First scholarship driver Aaron Marr experienced bad luck all day and lost his chain on the first lap of the final, forcing him to retire in 30th position.

In the open class, Alex Geary was fourth and Mike Jury eighth.

The New Zealand team secured enough points to retain the Trans Tasman Challenge Trophy.
