Andrew Fraser dominated the sprint to win the Stratford Cycling Club's Walker Shield race over 50km on Sunday.

A field of 38 riders faced the starter, with the 14-minute bunch working well together to fill the first four placings.

Fraser held off Steve Smith, Chris Peters and Dave Taylor in a time of one hour, 29 minutes and 34 seconds.

The scratch bunch for the 02 Project/ Bike Barn-sponsored race, Mel Titter, Greg Marfell, Jason Thomason and Simon Brown, had to work hard to catch the six-minute-break bunch, which was strengthened by the return to racing of Geoff Mackle and Mark Magee.

Titter recorded the fastest time of 1hr 17min 16sec.

Opinion poll

Will Aaron Cruden's omission hurt or help the All Blacks?

Hurt - he needs as much game time as possible.

Help - finally Beauden Barrett will get a proper run.

Hmmm - no biggie, just a temporary hitch.

Who is Cruden? I support the All Whites.
