Taranaki beat Manawatu in an under-13 40-over cricket match at Ongley Park in Palmerston North on Sunday.
After being sent in, Manawatu made 177 for five, with Hanley Setu the best of the Taranaki bowlers with two for 39 off eight overs.
Taranaki lost their first wicket in the first over. However, that did not slow Taranaki opener Jesse Vertongen, who scored 79.
Vertongen had good support from Caleb Smith (23) and Finbar Moriarty (20 not out) as Taranaki chased down the target in 33.1 overs.
