New Plymouth's Noel Ashcroft won a hard-fought sprint to claim the Taranaki Recreational Cycling Club's 30km race over two laps of the Alfred/Egmont roads circuit on Sunday.
Ashcroft's time was one hour, two minutes, 23 seconds.
Riding from the nine- minute mark, Ashcroft held off a fast-finishing Garry Ellis, with John Bowie a close third.
Ashcroft has recently returned from a three-month layoff.
The fastest time went to scratch rider Jason Thomason in 49min 45sec, ahead of Brohn Torckler (51min 49sec) and Mike Parker (56min 20sec).
