The Taranaki under-13 cricket side scored an unlikely win over their Hawke's Bay counterparts in a 40-over match at Ongly Park in Palmerston North on Sunday.

Batting first, the Bay made 139. Taranaki's run chase started badly with the side 13-3 off eight overs.

At 38-5 off 22 overs, some good batting lifted the score to 92-6. With five overs left, Taranaki needed a further 33 runs for the win.

Matthew Allen, with a superb 65, helped the side through to 142-8.

Will Aaron Cruden's omission hurt or help the All Blacks?

Hurt - he needs as much game time as possible.

Help - finally Beauden Barrett will get a proper run.

Hmmm - no biggie, just a temporary hitch.

Who is Cruden? I support the All Whites.
