Kiwi tennis No 1 Marina Erakovic is through to the quarterfinals of the US$235,000 (NZ$280,000) WTA event Pattaya, Thailand.

The 24-year-old has beaten Thai wildcard Varatchaya Wongteanchai 6-3 7-6 in the second round, setting up a quarterfinal date with fifth seed Sabine Lisicki of Germany.

Erakovic recorded her best win of the new year by thrashing world No 27 and third seed Su-Wei Hsie 6-2 6-2 in the first round, shrugging off some of the disappointment caused by her first round exit to Alize Cornet at the Australian Open.

The Aucklander, currently ranked 75 in the world, is using the tournament to prepare for the upcoming Fed Cup in Kazakhstan.
