A bold run by New Plymouth-trained mare Ekstreme in the group one weight-for-age sprint at Te Rapa tomorrow will clinch her a campaign in Sydney this autumn.
Trainer Bryce Revell has mapped out a programme for his group one- winning four-year-old mare that includes contesting the $A600,000 Coolmore Classic (1500m) in Sydney on March 20.
Ekstreme will make a return to the race track after a brief let-up in tomorrow's $200,000 Waikato Draught Sprint (1400m).
"Providing she goes a good race, then she'll go to Sydney," Revell said yesterday.
"She'll have to perform well over 1400 metres on Saturday to be worth sending over for the Coolmore.
"Two weeks after the Coolmore there is a race worth $400,000 which will be suitable for her."
Revell is thrilled with how Ekstreme has come up following a break after disappointing in beating only one rival home in the Zabeel Classic (2000m) at Ellerslie on Boxing Day. "I'm really happy with her," Revell said. "I think she's bang on and if it's wet (track) up there I think she's a big chance."
Ekstreme will have a change of rider with Hayden Tinsley taking the ride from Opie Bosson, who is serving a suspension for careless riding and was aboard the mare when it won the Group One Captain Cook Stakes (1600m) at Trentham last December.
Jason Waddell, who won the Travis Stakes on Ekstreme at Te Rapa a week after the Captain Cook, was offered the mount but was committed to ride Tavistock in the Waikato feature.
Revell is more than happy to have obtained the services of Tinsley.
