Wellington firm SilverStripe is one of only ten companies worldwide selected by Microsoft to feature in its suite of free applications for web developers.
Microsoft launched the web installer platform for developers at its MIX web conference in Las Vegas last week.
SilverStripe co-founder Sigurd Magnusson says the company recently made its open source content management software more compatible with Microsoft server software.
"It used to be a manual and time-consuming process to get our application running on Windows but this has been streamlined.''
Developers can now have a SilverStripe website up and running in minutes.
"We've had 140,000 downloads of our software and about 40 per cent of our customers have installed it on Windows. They'll now have a much smoother installation which makes us look great.
"We can now also start talking more confidently to customers who use the Windows platform. There's a large proportion of prospective customers who use it.''
SilverStripe's software was used to manage the Democratic National Convention website in the party's United States election campaign last year.
The company was also selected to be part of Google's summer of code programme - in which university students around the world work for open source software companies in their summer holidays.
