ANZ National Bank is proposing to outsource support for its teller systems to India, resulting in the loss of more than 30 Wellington jobs, according to a bank source.
Chief information officer Peter Lawrence is understood to have advised staff of the plan through a PowerPoint presentation to hundreds of bank workers last Tuesday at the Duxton Hotel.
ANZ National is piloting a new Windows-based teller system, MyTell, at 20 of its branches, with the expectation it will be rolled out to all ANZ branches by June and to National Bank branches next year.
Between 30 and 45 staff are believed to support MyTell. Requirements might grow somewhat once it was used by all branches.
Mr Lawrence would not comment.
The Reserve Bank needs to approve overseas outsourcing plans and has said it would not allow "core" jobs to be transferred overseas. The bank source says MyTell is classified as a "platinum" application, critical to the financial system.
