Telecom says it has restored XT mobile services for those customers who have been without service following a major outage this morning.
"Services are up and running and reports show our customers are using their mobile devices," said CEO Telecom Retail, Alan Gourdie said.
"We continue to manage the network at a heightened level, reflecting the complex technical nature of today's fault, and in order to satisfy ourselves that it is delivering the level of service our customers expect."
Telecom said a technical fault, affecting a Christchurch-based technology component, had caused the loss of mobile service, including voice, SMS, and mobile broadband.
The outage had affected all of the country south of Taupo.
Telecom and technology partner, Alcatel-Lucent, worked with "specialist technical teams" from around the world to restore service for XT mobile customers.
Telecom earlier reported that some of its XT network sites were back up and running, but the restoration of the network took longer than expected.
"We apologise and deeply regret any inconvenience our customers experienced due to the interruption of XT services toda, Mr Gourdie said.
"We know how important mobile services are to our customers. We do not expect our customers to pay for services they have not received, so we will advise as soon as we're able how we will manage this."
In statement, Telecom said any XT customers still experiencing service issues should try restarting their phone, by powering down then removing the battery for several seconds, then restarting the phone.

xt sucks :( mine still isnt working.
Yes I haven't been able to use my XT phone all day and I have done all the things suggested take the battery out and turn the mobile off. Still doesn't work Getting very tire of the XT system
I am on XT and my phone is still not working. Neither is my mums and my mates. I'm starting to really get sick of this
Hi There My daughter has a xt phone she is on prepaid does she still get free calling this weekend Please advise
My work phone is on XT,it says "limited service" on the screen for at least half of every day.I miss so many calls every day. My own six year old Sharp GX25 on Vodafone never misses a call.I would never shell out my own hard earned on any Telecom product. In any other country they would be out of buisness by now with the totally inferior service they offer.
seems like Telecom had made some puzzling decisions on choosing its mobile network (025 and 027). why build a mobile network which is used in very few countries - you can count them with one hand. if you have one of these phones, good luck try to use them overseas.
possible answers to the puzzle 1) incompetent decision makers 2) a cunning way of shutting out the competition
i will bet on 2)
Yet again Telecom fails to deliver... Thats what happens when you setup a new mobile network in less than 4 months!! Maybe they should sort out there slow broadband at the same time, I have more luck at home with my Vodafone mobile connect than there slow ADSL.
who cares, its just like a power cut...its not ideal but it happens. stop winging and use a land line.
Would not I be in a container carried by a helicoptor over the ocean rather than be in the car on the way to the Mt from Wellington to enjoy the 97% coverage by XT? What a fake Advertisment!
