Mobile phone company 2degrees says it has now joined Telecom in fully restoring international roaming after a fault prevented customers sending or receiving calls and texts and accessing the internet overseas.

Spokesman Mat Bolland said the problem emerged on Tuesday. Telecom customers had also been experiencing similar problems with Telecom's roaming service, but it was restored last night.

Telecom spokeswoman Jo Jalfon said engineers appeared to have fixed its problem but as they still did not know the root cause of the fault, they could not rule out a recurrence.

The problems occurred at a bad time with many families holidaying overseas during what is the first week of the school holidays.

Telecom's interim chief executive Chris Quin has taken to Twitter both to apologise for the roaming fault and to promise a proper resolution to email problems that plagued the company's YahooXtra service last month.
