TGIF: Celebrity sleepovers edition

Last updated 12:35 27/01/2012

It's a rainy rainy Friday in Wellington, and I have hours of work to slog through. Links? Links.

* Mark Malkoff asked a whole lot of celebrities if he could stay at their house. It worked.

* The Tangential detail what you are implying by reaching people via different means. Favourite: Facebook wall post: I don't really have anything to say to you, but I desperately want everyone to see me having something to say to you.

* FDR. AMERICAN BADASS.

* This is why I love Twitter.

* Read tech blogs? (Other than mine of course!) Some of the best of the best have just started a new one, PandoDaily. Featuring Paul Carr and MG Siegler, two of my faves.

* Star Wars Uncut is a fan film where people all over the world made their own 15-second piece of the film. Wildly varied (duh) but pretty fun.

* Iron Sky is almost here! Nazis. Nazis in space.

My life will be complete after seeing Iron Sky

I have to be honest, that FDR movie looks absolutely horrible. Iron Sky was also trying to do the So-ridiculous-its-great thing and did it well. FDR could possibly be the movie version of genital herpes.

Iron Sky is going to be the pick of the year for me.

Great to see Iron Sky make the finish line, I am a huge fan of Sky Captain and the world of tomorrow, (an achievement in indie film even if the subject matter isn't your cup of tea.) and Iron Sky is very much in the same ilk. Films like this are becoming more common as the gap between professional and amateur is blurred by common technologies. If you like the look of this film, others like it (stylistically)are as follows: Immortal (Ad Vitam) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0314063/ (Jean Giraud's comic bought to life.) Cassern http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0405821/ (A strange japanese film, but provocative) Avalon http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0267287/ (russian military techno future looks pretty styling) These films give you a short rope to hang due to budget, but mostly shine because the makers have had to find solutions without throwing money at the problem. (are you paying attention George Lucas?)
