Talk Amongst Yourselves Friday
Well, by the time you read this I'll be in Auckland (unless I've missed my connecting flight in Wellington) having some hands-on time with Forza Motorsports 3.
So in preparation for today, an Xbox Live friend kindly asked me to join him in a session of Forza 2 the other night, a game I haven't played for many, many, many months - and it showed. I was spat out the back very early in the first race and after being lapped for the second time in as many races, I decided the best thing was to graciously retire and leave the professionals to it!
And in preparation for a story that will probably run with my Forza 3 review, I recently spoke to a Christchurch man who is into the painting scene big time, spending hours creating designs for the in-game cars in Forza 2. He's created cars featuring English soccer player Frank Lampard, Asterix characters and a charming one featuring the face of his infant grandson.
That got me thinking about the dedication and effort some gamers put into the creation aspects in some games. Take Smackdown vs Raw 2009 for example. Every time Master Game Junkie plays the game he ends up spending more time creating wrestlers, their finishing moves and soundtracks than he does actually playing the game.
In fact, sometimes when I tell him it's time to finish playing he complains because he hasn't actually wrestled anyone yet!
So perhaps while I'm in Auckland enjoying Forza Motorsports 3 you can discuss whether you've got so deeply engrossed in the avatar editors or level editors or creative aspects of a game that you've actually spent more time creating and tweaking than you have playing!
And thanks to those who recommended iPod Touch games. I'm now happily working my way through Peggle, Rolando and Flight Control. Thanks.
Game Junkie is on Twitter and Facebook.

I loved that part, music and fireworks all timed along with wrestlers actions as he wakled to the ring quiet starting song, then he threw up his hands just as base drum kicked in and fireworks went off either side of him, shame he only ever had 2 fights...
@ sceneman . Have you played firefight yet if you have what u think .
Forza 3 sounds like its gonna be a good game .Roll on the christmas games there should be some good games coming out in the next few months . Does anyone know of any good games that are due out in the next few months that i might wanna save for????
Had a bit of fun with Saints Row 2 creating a female redneck with the 5 o clock shadow and bad makeup and the british male voice. Hilarious.
The most I've done was create a wrestler in Smackdown vs Raw 2007 and made a hevyweight male wrestler who has the same walk in as one of the female wrestlers. It had me bent over laughing when I first saw it and then my 10 year old nephew saw it and couldn't stop laughing either and promised to do that to all of his friend's wrestlers when he got the chance. The joys of being the best uncle ever.
Yeah wrestling games are good like that! Though I think I spent more time on character creation on the old N64 wrestling titles (particulary Wrestlemania 2000) than I do on the newer iterations.
I also knew a guy who would only play Duke3D to test the levels he built. He was really good at building them too, though it didn't help him play any better.
On another note, did anyone do the Uncharted 2 treasure hunt?
anyone win anything?
The customization like that was one of the few reasons I played through GTA:SA, just to try out different clothes as they were unlocked. And building characters in Saints Row, love it. For some reason a big chunk of my gaming involves customizing as many details as a game will allow. Mass Effects customizer was quite cool, I spent about 1.5hrs making my dude, and then played for about 15 minutes before deciding i want to re-customize my dude.
I especially like the odd online flash avatar generator like HeroMachine, kills hours of work. Need to find more tho, they are hard to spot. Need to get City of Heroes for that very reason. Anyone know of any other cool apps like that?
@ hadleigh, nah havent played ODST yet aye. Im not the biggest Halo fan but the games are fun enough so I'll give it a whirl at some point in time.
I havent played a Wrestling game in years but character creation is always the best in those. Recently I spent a long time making my guy in Mass Effect. He is very funny looking.
Whats everyone playing this weekend? Im probably just going to spend a lot of time on Mass Effect so I can beat it before the sequel arrives. Im also re-addicted to Sid Miers' Pirates! on PSP. Such a classic game.
Penny arcade have done a recent post/comic(?) on the new Dragon Age Origins character creator thats been released for the pc... that might help Troy if your thinking on getting the game.. spend three weeks creating the character before the game comes out..
I Remember on one of the old ps2 wrestling games i had it set up so whenever 2 of the guy wrestlers i had made came out as a team they had a male/female walking in intro where they kissed. used to crack me up. (i was like 12) I spent a long ass time in UFC undisputed 2009 creating a Fedor Emelianenko character, even had my computer on with a picture of him so i could get it right lol. Forza 3 looks so good, its the only game solely on xbox id consider buying one for, at the moment ive got Grid for ps3 which is a fantastic driving game, better than NFS shift for driving physics i reckon but forza is always that little bit better than anything else.
Jamming ninja gaiden sigma 2 at the moment, already atempting very hard mode and its killing me. the team missions are goddamn awesome. 2 intense ninja's fighting 3 of the bosses from story mode all at once. gets pretty insane.

MLB09 Road To The Show. So many options and behind the scenes stuff. Hours and hours spent editing avatars, cheers, intro music and scanning stats, freeagent info, management, training etc. A fulltime job I tell ya. And I'm still really bad at the game. She's a tough one.
