Stop ... it's Hammer Time

Last updated 14:45 10/11/2009

HammertimeHe's best known for uttering the phrase "You can't touch this" but musician M.C. Hammer is touching down in Auckland on Thursday to help Xbox launch its karaoke game, Lips: Number One Hits.

Also a huge Twit (on Twitter, of course) and the 14th most influential musician on the social networking site with 1,635,343 fans (50 cent, Ashley Tisdale and Souljaboytellem are just ahead of him), M.C. Hammer is also going to talk about establishing and maintaining a strong online community during his short trip to New Zealand and Australia.

I'm heading up to Auckland on Thursday to attend an Xbox function for Lips: Number One Hits and I'll try my best to get Mr Hammer to utter his most famous of phrases in my presence. Apparently he's a bit of a gamer, too.

And sticking with Twitter and Facebook, I noticed at the bottom of a press release about M.C. Hammer's visit a small line saying that the Twitter and Facebook applications, due in the new Xbox 360 update, will only be open to gamers 18 years old and over, in line with Microsoft's Xbox Live Marketplace rules that downloads from the marketplace are available only to over-18s.

Xbox exec Larry Hryb has said that the move iss to ensure online safety, but assured users that his team is working on an update to the Xbox 360 that will eventually allow parents to control access to the services via the console's Family Settings.

Your thoughts on that? And who's been playing Modern Warfare 2 already?

Gerard, I'm enjoying trying to imagine exactly how you'll get Mr Hammer to utter that phrase. Let us know!

Oh Yeah, go the Hammer!!!

On MW2, can't say I'm interested...On the other hand I did try out and really enjoyed Borderlands on the weekend, it's now on my to buy list :)

Is anyone going to own up to having owned a pair of hammer pants in there time? I was way too white to try it....

MW2 sitting on my desk waiting for the stop work hooter......actually looking forward to it more than expected....though bit disappointed in myself as was originally going to boycot it due to high prices. Co-op mode sounds good as the mile high mission was my favourite form COD4.

Awesome, please ask Mr Hammer if we'll be seeing some of his older back catalogue on Lips (ie. Lets Get It Started, Turn This Mutha Out, Ring 'Em). If he says yes, well thats one Lips sale to the Sceneman. I love rapping along to his old stuff when I'm horsed at a party :D

MW2 is strictly a rental for me, play through the campaign once to experience the cool set-pieces, play multi once or twice and get owned. Return to video shop. It feels so good giving Activision the big finger by boycotting their overpriced toys. WHOS WITH ME

Could you please ask him if he ever drops out of online games or is he too legit to quit?

Sceneman, you're not the only one mate. I fully intend to do that when I get paid.

Testing out a new retail my arse, they are trying to inflate prices in store so when digital distribution becomes the norm at the retails we used to pay everyone thinks they are getting a bargain.

I am looking forward to renting it though!

Sceneman - that would be the Reverend Hammer not Mr Hammer :-)

I'm with you, Sceneman. I won't be touching MW2 @ retail, even though it looks to be an awesome game. I'll wait until sanity prevails or it goes Platinum.

Why not really boycott the game, and buy a pirated version like me, screw 'em man, $150 is so f**king rediculous, i have no shame in saying that i will buy it pirated. The greed is ludicrous (dunno how to spell) i just cant get over this daylight robery, and the worst part is that itwill sell like freakin hot cakes man. I dunno, people complain about the problem but add fuel to fire in the same instance. I dont get it. I realise gaming companies have to make their money, but going from $80 to $100 one year to $100 to $150 per game in the next is inflation to the extreme!! Im with you sceneman, boycott this crap!!!
