Rockstar western delayed till May

Last updated 13:32 04/03/2010

Red DeadRockstar announced today that one of my most anticipated games of the year, Red Dead Redemption, will be delayed until May 21.

As a cowboy would say, "Dang it to heck, Kletus".

The game, which puts players in the leather boots of former outlaw James Marston, was due out on New Zealand on April 30 but Rockstar haven't given a reason for the delay. I bet there was much gnashing of teeth and wailing at the news.

Kotaku reported that during a Take 2 Interactive conference call, the company's president and CEO Ben Feder said "We shifted the launch of the game by several weeks into the third quarter. We believe this is the optimal time frame to release what is being hailed as the next generation of sandbox games."

Just about every one I've talked with today who have been eagerly waiting on this game are now saddened by the news, but what can you do? We'll just have to savour it even more when it arrives, won't we?

Although as I write this I've had a scary thought: isn't May when Microsoft's Xbox 360-only Alan Wake comes out? So is delaying Red Dead Redemption to May really a good idea, Rockstar?

What do you think about the delay of RDR? Will it ease what is already a chokka-block period of gaming goodness or are you bitterly disappointed at the news? What other game delay has you disappointed?

I remember when there were no delays when buying McDonalds but now they make it fresh and I have to stand around waiting for my food to be prepared for half of my lunch break. If I worked at McDonalds I would premake a bunch of burgers and just tell the customers I made theirs really fast. The customers would know me as The Super Fast Burger Maker With Those Big Muscly Forearms. They would ask me "How did you make my Big Mac so quickly?" and I would reply "I have had years of training hence my incredibly muscly forearms" and I would tap the side of my nose with my index finger in a conspiratory fashion.

God of War III is taking forever to come out. I don't know whether is was officially delayed but the wait has been ridiculous.

Wow, that's bad news Gerard, I was really looking forward to immersing myself in a good western. I'll just have to keep cranking the combat challenges on Arkham Asylum until then. I'm not sure how much Alan Wake would affect sales of RDR though Gerard - they seem to be pretty different kinds of games and Alan Wake might appeal to a slightly more niche market than RDR...

welcome back Beastman!

Perhaps a blessing in disguise - a 3 week opportunity to catch up on games...

"Although as I write this I've had a scary thought: isn't May when Microsoft's Xbox 360-only Alan Wake comes out? So is delaying Red Dead Redemption to May really a good idea, Rockstar?" - Probably wouldn't be a bad idea. Rockstar is a bigger name than Alan Wake, as well as this being multiplat while Alan Wake is Xbox360 exclusive.

Beastman? More like Popeye. And would said burgers be endorsed by Weight Watchers?

So, the questions is - is Beastman a Blog Idol top ten finalist?! Hope so!!!

I'm looking forward to this, but am pleased cos now I'll be able to get the money to purchase this, after being hit by GOW3, Heavy Rain, Bioshock 2, Battlefield BC2. Plus, its only a month. Delays have been far worse!
