A boarding pass used by Paris Hilton is being auctioned on Trade Me by an Auckland businessman.

Phil - who wants to keep his identity a secret - boarded an Air Pacific flight to Fiji for a much needed break with his wife.

"I opened the in-flight magazine and a boarding pass fell out of the page I opened at. That in itself is not unusual, you always find other peoples boarding passes in seat pockets," he said.

"But this was Paris Hilton's boarding pass. Really. I was sitting where a media-megastar sex goddess had sat.

"Actually at first I thought it was a gimmick or an advertising thing in the magazine and so I checked, but there wasn't one in my wife's copy."

He also admits, being "near my 50s" that he didn't actually have a firm grasp on who Paris is.

But once home he went online. "Since I found this boarding pass I have, I admit, looked at lots of pictures... in the name of research, you understand?"

And he found out the Hollywood hottie and hotel heiress was indeed in Fiji and on the plane, in the same seat, just two days before.

She had been to exclusive Wadigi Island resort with old flame Doug Reinhardt.

She twittered: "Love Wadigi Island, had the most incredible stay. It is true Paradise, so beautiful and private. It's the perfect place for vacation."

Phil decided to put the boarding pass on Trade Me for a bit of fun.

Since then he's had more than 50 bids and is closing on $100.

He's found himself fielding some strange queries. He turned down one request to plant a lipstick kiss on it to up the price. No it doesn't smell of perfume. No, there were no signs of Paris' dog. And no, he didn't sniff the seat.

Since he put the pass up for auction he admits he's had a few sleepless nights lying awake thinking about Paris ... that is, worrying whether she or her management might take umbrage at his making a quick buck off her and demand the boarding pass back. And money.

"But I don't think it's an invasion of privacy. And I can't imagine she'd be annoyed."
