What today's employees want most is decent information technology, a new workplace survey shows.

Forget the foosball table and a decent coffee machine; the thing staff most want from their employers is a fast and reliable information technology system, an international survey shows

The research was carried out by London-listed multinational Regus which provides serviced offices and meeting rooms for business people.

It polled 22,000 people online and found 82 per cent put decent information technology (IT) top of their workplace wishlist. A smart office, a professional reception and a good location with good transport links and parking all rated, but were not as important.

Regus New Zealand country manager Nick Bradshaw said poorly functioning or inadequate IT infrastructure had a significant impact on workforce morale.

"Just think about how many times you or a colleague has endured seemingly endless frustration because of IT dramas. Combined with the reduced productivity, it has a huge effect on business."
