While New Zealanders took to Google last month to find out more about the Euro 2012 football tournament, we were also intrigued by Miley Cyrus.

Google has released its top 10 phrases which were the fastest-rising searches for June, and there are some surprises.

The list is a medley of sports, actresses, films, logins and our weather.

The fastest rising search, up 800 per cent, was 'euro 2012', spurred from the UEFA Euro 2012 football tournament, one of the world's biggest sporting events that was won by Spain on Monday morning (NZ time).

Matariki, the Maori New Year, which was on June 21, was the second fastest rising search, and science fiction film Prometheus came in third.

The fastest rising searches list was made up of the search terms which saw the largest increase in search volume over the month of June.

There were some variations across the country, with Aucklanders more interested in Lady Gaga than Miley Cyrus, and Cantabrians were focused on weather - with 'metservice', 'weather', 'weather Christchurch' and 'weather forecast' all making the top 10.

However, they weren't the only ones in the country intrigued by the Christchurch weather, with both 'weather Christchurch' and 'Christchurch airport' making the top 10 on the national list.

It turns out those in Wellington are quite the maths fans, with 'cool math games' the 5th fastest rising search, and 'maths games' the 9th.

Those in Otago didn't really care about the Euro 2012 tournament - it didn't even make the top 10. They were more interested instead in the All Blacks, pims - the Otago University login system - and BBC.
