Users are having problems downloading iOS9.

Apple customers were facing issues while upgrading to iOS9, which was released this morning in New Zealand, technology blog 9to5Mac reported.

The blog posted a screenshot showing an error message that appeared when users tried to install the latest version of the operating system for iPhone, iPad and the iPod touch.

It's not usual for operating system updates to struggle in the early hours as millions of people try to update their devices at once.

If you do see the error message, check back later today to try again.

Last year, many people struggled with the update to iOS8. It was blamed on the large size of the update which meant many people didn't have room on their phones for the 4.58GB file.

The update to iOS9 is only 1.3GB.

If you don't have enough space on your device for the update, plug it into your computer and use iTunes.

Earlier, Apple said it won't release watchOS2, an updated operating system for the Apple Watch, as planned after it discovered a bug in development.
