Telco giants are vying for Auckland's Apple fans by promising cushy queueing for customers wanting to get their hands on an iPhone 5.

Vodafone is hosting a launch party for the hotly-anticipated smartphone which will be held at its headquarters at the Viaduct tonight.

Vodafone spokeswoman Emma Carter said the company would be putting on a spread from 8pm with free food and drinks, as well as entertainment.

"We're having visits from Sir Peter Leitch, Stolen Girlfriends Club, Jay Reeves and some of the Warriors," she said.

"We're inviting people to come inside and have fun - no need to line up outside a store until midnight."

Rival network Telecom is also aiming for a luxury line-up, hosting a similar event at Auckland's Telecom Place on Victoria Street.

Telecom's iPhone 5 festivities kick off at 6pm, and pre-registrations open at 8.30am. According to the Telecom website, it has already sold out of its pre-order stock.
