I think some people can only afford one and this sets up the whole mine is better than yours mentality of gamers, this is especially noticeable in the PS3 vs Xbox flame wars on forum sites.

As for these games I own both and they are different enough to like them both, COD is a more traditional "twitch" FPS and battlefield allows you more freedom to approach game play differently both good things depending on the mood you are in when you switch on your console

As a happy owner of COD MW, MW2, and numerous other combat based games feel free to send me a complimentary copy of BF Bad Company 2 and i will let you know which is better ;)

I played Bad Company 1 when it was released and enjoyed it but it did not hold my attention as long as MW or MW2. the array of multiplayer modes keeps me happy.

I am interested to see how Bad Company 2 varies from the original and love using tanks and other vehicles in game to find new and interesting ways of killing opponents so cant wait to give it a whirl!

Having only played the Beta test of the BF I have to say MW2 has the much better graphics but after completing my first prestige and not wanting to go through it again through boredom I think I will move on generally as i believe that MW2 has reached the end of my attention span.

I can't wait for dedicated servers... thats definatley one thing i will not miss.

Oh and if any of the steam crowd are reading this, do something about your bandwidth, awaiting 3 days after initiaiting download is.. annoying. That goes for you too Crashelecom :)

I love FPS war games - COD and Battlefield are both great game franchies in all their various incarnations. You guys go right ahead and waste time and energy hating each other - I got games to play.

For fighting games, I would always pick Tekken over anything else. It's not so much that I don't like other fighting games, it's just that I really enjoy the Tekken games because they play really well and have some great characters. Having said that I wouldn't slag off other fighters - I just wouldn't play them!!

COD has certainly been the headline grabber so it will be interesting to see if BFBC2 can really re-establish the franchise. My experience with both is limited to COD4 so I might have to pick up BFBC2 just to see what all the fuss is about.

I like Battlefield because it is you can drive a variety of vehicles and first person game mode is much longer and the story is better.

Call of Duty was a disappointment for me..

Unreal tournament is a fave, even on PS3 it rocked.

Also loooking forward to UFC 2010.

Going to be a massive year for PS3 and hopefully see the decline of the archaic xbox

I used to think COD4 was unbeatable, but since playing Battlefield Bad Company 1 (and hopefully 2 soon) I think it has the edge. The destructible environment and vehicles do it for me!

As for a franchise, I'd always go for Codemaster's Cricket games over EA's...

1) Not really. If a game is good, I like it, regardless of whether there may be a competing franchise. Case in point; I currently own (and enjoy) Guitar Hero World Tour, Guitar Hero Metallica, Rock Band and Rock Band 2.

2) If I was forced at gunpoint to name a favoured franchise out of the above two, I'd probably go with Guitar Hero simply due to song selection. The Guitar Hero series seems to have more songs catering to my tastes (excluding downloadable content here). But then again, I really like the Rock Band presentation, and it does offer a much wider variety of downloadable content. IOW, both have their strong points.

3) No, I find that behavior pointless and immature. I also get irritated by regular posters in web forums dedicated to a single game getting all uppity if someone has the audacity to come along and criticize any aspect of a game. This is especially irritating if the criticism is well reasoned and justified. These same folks are also fond of saying that they're gonna rate a game they haven't yet experienced as a 10/10, just because its from their favourite franchise.

In summary, I guess have no time or patience for blind fanboyism.

I picked up my copy of BBC2 this morning and only had an hour or so to play, but from what I've played so far it looks like its going to be a wicked cool game. I am a fan of both these franchises, I have clocked up quite a few hours on COD4 and MW2 and also played through BBC1 a couple of times. I think I will continue to play both as I have nothing against either of them.
