A Cantabrian has become one of the first students to graduate from an international high school that involves studying in 12 countries for four years.
Bailey Dobier was one of 15 international students to graduate from the THINK Global School (TGS) when she passed her high school diploma in Japan at the weekend.
Dobier spent two years at Rangi Ruru Girls' School before discovering TGS online. She dedicated herself to getting a scholarship to allow her to follow her dreams of international travel and study.
Founded by New Zealand native Joann McPike in 2010, TGS is a path-breaking high school that offers teenagers a once-in-a-lifetime international experience.
TGS students immerse themselves in 12 countries over four years, spending one school trimester in each country. They undertake a challenging curriculum, administered by teachers, experts and local guides ultimately culminating in their official International Baccalaureate (IB) examinations at the end of year four.
Throughout their studies, TGS students visit significant historical, cultural and scientific sites, while building new skills and relationships with those around them.
TGS' mission is to open students' minds to the world through cultural immersion. Since the first year in 2010, Dobier and her classmates have embarked on a life-changing journey.
They have crossed India by train, snorkelled in the Galapagos Islands, walked the Great Wall of China, learned to tango in Argentina and trekked across the Himalayan Kingdom of Bhutan.
After their graduation in Japan, Dobier and her classmates will travel to Tanzania and attempt to climb Mt Kilimanjaro.
