Shadbolt gets botox boost

Invercargill Mayor Tim Shadbolt has tightened his grip on the title of "New Zealand's Sexiest Mayor" after it was yesterday revealed he has undergone an extreme makeover.
The makeover was part of Invercargill beauty salon Beauty and Beyond's annual extreme makeover event at the Ascot Park Hotel, in support of the charity Look Good Feel Better.
From botox to eyebrow plucking Mr Shadbolt has had it all, but he said the benefits for his appearance remained unclear.
"I think arsenic and nitro-glycerine would have been more appropriate," Mr Shadbolt said.
The two-week treatment gave him a new appreciation of what women went through, sometimes on a day-to-day basis, he said.
"The botox hurt going in and for a while afterwards, it's not very pleasant at all," Mr Shadbolt said.
Mr Shadbolt also had laser treatment, acid-based skin care treatment, and was sporting a new hair style.
After he was revealed as the mystery guest to a crowd of 300 yesterday, Mr Shadbolt auctioned off items donated by Southland businesses with proceeds to the charity.
Mr Shadbolt was approached to participate as the celebrity guest along with four southern women who underwent an elaborate eight-week makeover, culminating in a public vote to choose the winner.
Beauty and Beyond owner, and event founder, Nicole Carter said Mr Shadbolt was an ideal candidate because he added profile to the cause.
"We appreciate what he has done for us, and he is looking good too," she said.
The winner of the competition was Jenni Ngahooro.
