Police have interviewed the victim of a home invasion in Christchurch on Wednesday, and will continue to canvass people in the area for several days.
The 58-year-old woman was at her home in Dallington, northeast of the central city, when she was attacked at 10.15pm.
She was in bed when she was woken by a male intruder, who assaulted her then fled.
"We've had a lot of people come forward with information and sightings of people and vehicles on that evening," said Detective Senior Sergeant Grant Wormald of Papanui police.
The witness had paid some particular interest to those people and vehicles because they thought they were out of place.
The woman was very shaken, but had been able to give police more information about what had happened, he said.
Police were conducting a scene examination of the house and making enquiries in the area where the attack occurred.
The house was in a suburban street, but came off a major road linking parts of the city, Mr Wormald said.
