The Death Notice List of Names is for 21st century death notices – from 2000 onwards. It lists the name and the date that the death notice appeared in The Press.
To view the actual Death Notices as they appear in The Press you can visit the Aotearoa New Zealand Centre in Christchurch City Libraries’ Central Library in Gloucester Street Christchurch where previous copies of The Press are available on microfilm.
To Search for a Death Notice:
1) Open a Death Notice List of Names, below
2) Press Ctrl+F or press the Search Button on the Adobe Toolbar (binoculars icon)
3) Enter the name in the following format: Smith, James or Smith, J or Smith
4) Enter date in the following format: 01 Jan 01
Handy Tips for the Death Notice indexes
1) Names may not be as they appear; e.g. ‘Jim’ may appear as ‘James’
2) There may be several different Death Notices for the same person.
3) More than one person may have the same name.
4) Not everyone who has died in Christchurch will have had a death notice.
