Online tool rates energy efficiency
A new online tool has been launched to help make office buildings more eco-friendly.
The tool, part of the NabersNZ voluntary building rating system, is a calculator aimed at giving commercial landlords and tenants more information about energy efficiency.
It has been launched by the New Zealand Green Building Council and the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA).
NabersNZ project manager Mike Frew says the tool will provide a clearer picture of how to improve a building's energy efficiency and qualify it for a higher green star rating.
Frew says the calculator is also likely to be used by architects, engineers, and building scientists in the design stage, to more accurately design a building that will meet a client's desired star rating.
The Green Building Council gives commercial buildings green star ratings, covering both the structures and the interiors.
Christchurch buildings with star ratings include the new Christchurch City Council Chambers in Hereford St, HSBC Tower in Worcester St, Press House in Gloucester St, Forte Health in Kilmore St, and one building each in the Show Place and Hazeldean office parks.
