Lincraft to open second store in city
Christchurch's Eastgate shopping centre has secured a new tenant, Australian craft and home furnishing store Lincraft.
It is leasing 1500 square metres of the 6000sqm vacated by Farmers, one of the anchor tenants that decided to quit its tenancy after the February 22 earthquake.
Chief executive Kerry Hitchcock of NPT Ltd, the centre's owner, said the shopping site was close to leasing another 800sqm. It was also receiving more inquiries about the retail space.
NPT, a listed commercial and retail property owner, had recently engaged Jones Lang LaSalle to manage Eastgate and it was beginning a leasing campaign.
Eastgate lost its car park and 26 stores in February 22's earthquake. They have not been rebuilt.
Hitchcock said the space vacated by Farmers was on two floors and NPT was hopeful of leasing half of it by Christmas. It was investigating ways of using the upper floor.
It expected Lincraft to set up shop at Eastgate before Christmas. Lincraft also has a store in the Bush Inn Centre.
