Snow-making improvements for Wanaka's Treble Cone ski area
Treble Cone has announced a new snow-making system that will allow it to open on time.
The ski area has installed new pipes, pumps and guns to make snow on the Easy Rider trail from Home Basin down to the base lodge and on Main Street.
In a statement, Treble Cone chief executive officer Jackie van der Voort said was a long time coming and was an "extensive investment" for the ski area.
She did not divulge the cost of the upgrade.
"We want to ensure that our customers are able to ski at Treble Cone from opening day, through the school holidays, and into the heart of the season.
"These improvements will improve customer experience for all levels of skiers and boarders, including beginners and young families."
The snow-making system was provided by SMI Snowmakers and will be finished and operational by the start of the season on June 22.
Snow-making has been done at Treble Cone previously but not in the areas where the new system is being installed.
A lack of snow and warm temperatures delayed skifield opening dates in many places across the country last year.
