Roads closed to make room for Christchurch's metro sports facility
Some on-street parking near Christchurch Hospital has been lost as work ramps up on the city's metro sport facility site
Horatio St and the bulk of Balfour Tce from Antigua St are no longer accessible, and a new entrance from Stewart St is available for accessing businesses at the western end of Balfour Tce.
Otakaro Limited, the Crown company overseeing the metro sports facility construction, said some on-street parking had been lost.
"These two streets run through the middle of the site and the time has come to remove the roads and the services underneath them in preparation for major site works beginning later this year," chief executive Albert Brantley said.
The metro sports facility will include a 50-metre, 10-lane competition swimming pool and a separate diving pool, a large aquatic leisure area, five hydroslides, fitness spaces and nine indoor courts for sports such as netball and basketball.
The project is expected to be completed in early 2020.
