Southbridge has finally popped onto the Smartphone map following the recent installation of a Telecom Smartphone network worth $150,000.

The new network enables users to make calls, use the internet and send text messages on their smartphone.

Telecom says the network improvement is in line with its committment to provide better service to rrual communities. The installation will also improve cell coverage as far as the Rakaia River and 7km south of the township.

With cellphones becoming more and more intergral to our lives, the network was a natural progression a long time coming.

In the past six months in the Canterbury region, Telecom has also built two new cell sites in Sumner and installed equipment on a local site in Leithfield.
