CHIP OFF THE OLD BLOCK: Jayne Hamilton quit call centre work to drive concrete trucks.

Concrete truck driver Jayne Hamilton is taking after her old man.

At 22 years old, the former call centre worker is now part of the Canterbury rebuild and has been driving the trucks for about a year.

''I basically went from being in an office to being out in the freezing cold,'' she said. ''Sometime's it's so cold I wonder why I'm doing this, but I wouldn't swap it.''

Hamilton worked her way up from a Class 1 private car licence to her multi-axel Class 4 at Canterbury Concrete.

She's working all the hours she can to bring in the overtime, and sometimes starts as early as 3am laying house foundations.

There's no shortage of work.

Jayne is amongst about 150 nominees for The Press competition to find Canterbury's Hottest Tradie. See the entrants and vote for your favourite.
