Hundreds gathered to celebrate Chinese culture at Christchurch's ReStart mall on Saturday night.

The central city container mall turned Chinatown for one night, with Chinese market stalls, food and cultural dancing keeping the crowd entertained.

The Chinese Cultural Night also included the popular lion and dragon dances - two forms of traditional Chinese dances, involving performers in costume.

Shops at the container mall stayed open late, before the event was closed with fireworks after dark.
