GO TO LYTTELTON
The Lyttelton Harbour Festival of Lights starts on Thursday and runs until June 23.
Prepare to celebrate mid winter, Matariki and the winter solstice. Numerous events are on offer over the four days, including the popular street party on June 21.
Other events include wine tasting, a photography competition, film night, buskers, art exhibitions, amazing food, heaps of great music and of course a brilliant fireworks display.
Lyttelton residents are invited to light up their homes (and are in to win great prizes), children can take part in a costume parade and there might even be a roller disco.
Lyttelton's The Tin Palace Gallery opens its doors on Thursday for a special pop-up sound and light exhibition, Illuminate from 6-10pm.
The exhibition is presented by the Harbour Arts Collective as part of the Festival of Lights programme. The opening night follows the official launch of the Borderline Listening Post in Lyttelton's transitional civic square.
There will be live performances by local artists Memory Burn, Teen Haters and Zeug Gezeugt from 8.15pm in the gallery.
The performances will be interspersed with the sonic components (curated by the Borderline Ballroom) of the illuminate light and sound exhibition.
The light components are the works of local artists Mick Stephenson, Diana Adams, Sharon Brophy and Asheley Elizabeth. The exhibition will run nightly from June 21-23 from 5-9pm.
Think you're a music trivia whiz? Head along to Revival Bar on Victoria St every Wednesday night and get involved in the music-based quiz night. The Quizmaster is a member of local group Soul System and they play a stripped down set afterwards.
