Welcome to a wrap of what's happening in Christchurch today.
The clouds will clear for a beautiful Waitangi Day in Christchurch today.
Metservice forecasts a cloudy morning before the skies clear for a fine day and a high of 19 degrees Celsius.
The balmy weather and sunshine will continue well into next week.
WAITANGI DAY CELEBRATIONS
Head out to Little River today for a family fun day and Waitangi Day Picnic at Awa Iti Domain at midday. Being Bob Marley's birthday, there will be reggae on the sound system and giant games for the children. See littleriver.org.nz for details.
Kaiapoi is also celebrating Waitangi Day in style this year with street theatre, period costume competitions, a hangi and a market. Head to the Kaiapoi i-Site or check out kaiapoi.org.nz for info. Starts 10am.
QUESTION OF THE DAY
Question: Will the tiles be changed on the Bridge of Remembrance (the ones on the hospital side) when the bridge is repaired?
Answer: The tiles will be replaced as a part of the development of the Avon River Precinct led by Cera. The Stronger Christchurch Infrastructure Rebuild Team (Scirt) will complete repairs to the bridge structure, and asphalt will initially be laid in place of the damaged tiles, before lifting of the asphalt for new pavers to be laid as part of the River Precinct work. The design and timeframes are still to be worked through, with a lot dependent on the progress of repairs to the bridge structure. Cera will advise about these when it can.
