WEATHER

Today is expected to be much cooler than yesterday's scorcher in Christchurch, with a high of 20 degrees Celsius and mostly cloudy weather forecast. Light rain is possible until early evening, Metservice said.

Cloudy periods are expected tomorrow morning and evening, with a high of 24C forecast. 

The temperature is set to soar again on Friday, with a high of 28C likely.

Brief rain is forecast early Saturday, followed by fine weather and light winds for a high of 25C. 

TRAFFIC

Police have reported no traffic issues in Christchurch this morning.

QUESTION OF THE DAY

Q: Has any thought been given to raising the height of the weirs in Mona Vale to restore the lower reaches of the Wairarapa Stream to the pre-earthquakes level and depth? Roger and Joce Atkinson

A: Raising the weirs would increase the flooding risk in the area, therefore it's not a desirable option. Christchurch City Council
