Visitor numbers at Ellerslie Flower Show  surged on day two.

Thousands lined up yesterday morning to be first in the gate.

About 9000 people attended yesterday, early Christchurch City Council visitor number estimates show.

Historically, the show had been affected by the weather as most displays were outside. Its opening day was attended by about 7500 people, 500 up on last year.

Yesterday’s 22-degree high  may have helped boost  numbers. Visitors reported some staying on into the evening, enjoying a glass of wine before the  6pm closing.

Today, the forecast is for showers with a southerly change which could see numbers dip again.
