QUESTION OF THE DAY
Q: What are the plans for the section of Deans Ave where the roundabout once was? It remains a traffic hazard! Penny Sellers
A: The proposal is to remove the roundabout and run the road straight through with a signalised pedestrian/cycle crossing just south of where the roundabout was. The project will go to tender this week with construction expected to start in 4 to 6 weeks depending on contractor availability. The project concept has been around since prior to the earthquakes. However, it could not commence until the major sewer works were completed and the necessary approvals acquired for the re-design.
Post earthquakes, the project scope changed slightly as funding was sought from the major cycleway programme to include the signalised crossing. John Mackie, transport and greenspace manager, Christchurch City Council
