Canterbury prepares for a right royal party

02:47, Nov 12 2012

Canterbury, it's time to put the glad rags on, sip champagne, back a horse and admire some livestock.

This year's frivolities are going to be big with royal visits, the 150th year of the Canterbury A & P Show and, of course, the most prestigious races on the country's calendar.

Cup and Show Week has already kicked off in style with 2000 Guineas Day at Riccarton racecourse on Saturday.

Tomorrow, it's the big one - Cup Day at Addington Raceway with fashion, body art, live music . . . oh, and racing.

If ticket sales are anything to go by - the Lindauer Lawn has sold out - it's going to be a huge day.

Wednesday is Ladies Day at Riccarton and the first day of the Canterbury A & P Show.

The Lindauer Family Race Day takes place at Addington Raceway on Friday - $10 general admission on the gate.

The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall will visit the show on Friday.

I'm hoping to see Camilla chopping wood and Charles driving a tractor.

The Christchurch Casino New Zealand Cup Day takes place at Riccarton racecourse on Saturday.

Due to some bad behaviour last year, car-boot enthusiasts will not be able to take their own alcohol into the Carriage Paddock area.

The Press will bring you coverage throughout the week.
