Dancers and musicians combined to entertain Christchurch residents in a unique performance.
The Christchurch Symphony Orchestra and members of the Royal New Zealand Ballet charmed a crowd of about 1700 people at CBS Canterbury Arena on Saturday night.
The performance, called A Night of Dance, included extracts from famous ballets, including Tchaikovsky's Sleeping Beauty and Glazunov's Raymonda.
Christchurch Symphony Orchestra marketing manager Michelle Walsh said organisers were happy with the success of the event.
"It was great. There was a real mix of people who regularly come to the orchestra and people who were particularly interested in seeing the dancers."
Walsh said the orchestra normally performed in the pit when the ballet visited and it was rare for them to be on stage with the dancers.
The performers had enjoyed the chance to entertain the city's quake-hit residents, she said.
"The ballet was happy to be back in Christchurch. They're not here as much as normal due to the venue situation."
The two groups were likely to collaborate again in the future, Walsh said.
