When comedian Rhys Darby was asked to work with one of the world's most famous adventurers he jumped at the opportunity "like a commando leaping from a tree".

British adventurer Bear Grylls, who achieved fame on the hit television show Man vs Wild, is set to visit Christchurch on November 28 to perform a two-hour show.

Darby has been announced as the host of A Wild Night with Bear Grylls, Live on Stage.

Bear Grylls is coming to New Zealand.

"I'm a massive fan of Bear so I jumped at this opportunity like a commando leaping from a tree ... with bugs in his gob," he said.

"An amazing opportunity has presented itself. Ironically if I had stayed a soldier I probably would never have met Bear but now years later as a comedian, I get to work with him."

Darby said he was not fazed with what Grylls may put him through on stage; it was backstage that he had some issues.

"I think any guy is going to be a bit deflated having to take his shirt off next to Bear, so I've asked for separate dressing rooms. I am however pretty worried about the food that will be provided in the green room."

Grylls' performance will feature fire, swinging from the roof and his favourite activity - eating unusual food.

Tickets to the Christchurch show are available from Ticketek. For more information about the show, visit beargryllslive.com.
