Students from Christchurch's performing arts school stunned Christmas shoppers at the Northlands Shopping Centre yesterday.

The group, from the National Academy of Singing and Dramatic Art, performed a flash mob at the mall's food court in front of hundreds of shoppers.

Their rendition of All I Want For Christmas attracted a big crowd.

Some shoppers took photos of the performance, but others continued to eat their lunch.

Christchurch dancer and performer Hayden Withers recorded the flash mob and uploaded the video to YouTube. It has attracted almost 800 views.

On the mall's Facebook page, shopper Angela Beynon-Lee said she "loved the flash mob at lunch".

"Way to go Northlands, put me in a great Christmassy mood," she said.
