Chch artist wins $30,000 prize
Christchurch artist Miranda Parkes has been awarded the prestigious 2013 Olivia Spencer Bower Foundation Art Award.
The sculptural painter and video artist, receives the $30,000 prize for work described as ''exploring the languages of abstraction while making dynamic work that is not bound to its conventions .... an artist who mischievously acknowledges a modernist heritage''.
Miranda Parkes graduated from the University of Canterbury's Ilam School of Fine Arts in 2005.
The prize is designed to cover the winner's living costs while they pursue their work.
The awards has been funded since 1987 in recognition of the artist Olivia Spencer Bower (1905-1982)
